Sunday News: Herd Of Cows Helps Round Up Criminal In North Carolina
A herd of cattle assisted police in North Carolina this week in the capture of a fleeing fugitive.
During a routine traffic check, police in the western section of the state’s town of Boone pulled over the suspect. The suspect left the area and authorities were unable to apprehend him. Fortunately, the cattle were not thrilled with the suspect’s presence in their field and led authorities right to him.
The event was described by police in a press release posted on their Facebook page. On May 9, police stopped the suspect during a routine traffic stop. The suspect escaped, leading Boone police and Watauga County Sheriff’s officers on a high-speed chase through town. Because the subject was driving recklessly, police were unable to approach him. The suspect escaped into undeveloped territory after pulling off the highway near a crossroads in adjacent Deep Gap.
The release stated that “Apparently cows do not want suspected criminals loitering in their pasture and quickly assisted our officers by leading them directly to where the suspect was hiding,” Read the full police statement
The individual in question was charged with Felony Fleeing/Eluding Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, Driving on a Revoked License, and Disorderly Conduct. Prior to his court hearing, a $20,000 bail was established. The cops, as well as the cows, were commended in the news statement.
“We at the Boone Police Department are always looking for better ways to serve our community,” the release concluded. “We may be a small town; but we are a progressive, forward-thinking law enforcement agency. For rural law enforcement, we want to be the tip of the spear.”
