The Age of Early Computers:
It was around 1991 when India became an open economy and computer made a noisy entry in our lives.
I still remember how our dance room in school was suddenly transmuted into the “Computer Room” housing giant servers and several desktops.
Huge louvred windows of a very old building, from where we watched the sky, got covered with wooden boards to prevent dust and facilitate the AC.
The only room in our school that had an air-conditioner at that point of time.
We would press our nose on the half-glass doors and see some selected teachers operate the machines where only some senior girls were allowed.
If ever access was granted, we had to open our shoes, wash our hands and enter the room like entering a shrine.
For us the experience of the computer room was akin to paying a visit to God.
