What I Learnt From a 3-Day AWS Gen AI Bootcamp & Hackathon
It’s More of Breaking Bounds!!!
First thought — I had no idea about the people, the task, or how I would participate.
The only weapon I had? A sliver of knowledge about Gen AI and AWS Bedrock from tutorials. As an introverted, minimal-network person, I told myself, What have I got to lose?
The best outcome? Winning. The worst? Feeling awkward, uncomfortable, or (most terrifyingly) giving my two very sarcastic managers yet another reason to roast me about my “wasted” time.
Since the positives outweighed the negatives—and because I wanted to tick a box on my “Do Something Scary” list for the year—I applied for it in February.
My workplace gave me permission for the three-day Gen AI bootcamp and hackathon, meaning no client work for 3 days. But my team? They saw an opportunity. As soon as my training hours ended, they graciously (read: ruthlessly) dumped tasks on me.
And you know what? It wasn’t nearly as bad as my overthinking brain made it out to be.
In fact, it was so much better. So much so that I’m now writing about my learnings, feeling like a genius and low-key proud of myself.
