Few things are as empowering as deciding your direction before society hands you a script

Now at 39, I still hear the same old lines-

  • “There’s still hope,”
  • “Plenty of people have kids after 40,” or
  • “You’ll change your mind eventually.”

As if the only reason I’ve chosen not to become a parent is some confusion or missed opportunity. But the truth is, I’ve never felt more grounded in my choice.

For me and I am sure for most of us, being childfree is about choosing where we pour our time, energy, and purpose. It is seldom about rejecting love or running away from responsibility. We watch our friends and colleagues trying to balance their aspirations with sleep-deprived nights and rising expenses. We admire their resilience. But that lifestyle doesn’t speak to us!

So what?

We live in a country overflowing with people and expectations, where women are still subtly (and not-so-subtly) told that motherhood is the ultimate achievement. But what if we began honouring those who choose differently? Those who value peace over pressure, presence over obligation?
