Why Isn’t Apple Selling a “Slim Apple Watch”?

I have many concerns with the Apple Watch as it is today, but the biggest one is the battery life. It’s only 30 hours at best. I want one that lasts for at least five days. The best would be charging once a week on weekends and enjoying the watch worry-free the rest of the time.

If that means getting rid of some functionalities, I’m okay with that. I can live without Siri. In fact, I’d even ditch phone calls and — albeit reluctantly — messaging. No music playback works for me.

The important features I want to keep are:

  • Telling the time (obviously)
  • GPS — I know it drains the battery, but I need it,
  • The heart rate monitoring (HRM) and sleep tracking. I’m willing to negotiate on the HRM. I could skip the irregular rhythm notifications, but only if it’s crucial for battery life.
  • Fitness tracking. That one is non-negotiable. And if someone could come up with a way to detect bike riding the same way it detects walking right now, that would be fantastic. That’s actually a feature for which I would be willing to pay an extra $30.
