Crocodiles in the Wild

There’s a big difference between seeing crocodiles in a wildlife park or hopping on a tour boat that takes you to a river, where they throw a piece of meat into the water to watch them jump out.

Let me explain

Western Australia has a coastline of 20,000 km, and around 60% of that is the Kimberley region. The Kimberley is one of the most remote areas on the planet, and we spent three months traversing it with our 40ft catamaran. Before entering, locals in Broome told us some terrifying crocodile attack stories. They warned us, and we appreciated it, as it helped us be prepared.

The Kimberley is known for its rugged beauty, enormous tides, and massive crocodiles. Personally, I prefer seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. After visiting some zoos and wildlife parks in Southeast Asia, I could never see animals in cages again.

It was normal to wake up in most morning with a 5 metre (16ft) crocodile swimming in between in hulls just waiting for some sort of food to come. We had them swimming for hours at some point we would give them names and would say goodbye as we left the bay to…
