Never Mind The Darkness
Don’t look behind you. Don’t do it. You’ll regret it…
Never mind the dreadful cold of breath dribbling chilly down the nape of your neck.
Never mind the way those tiny hairs on your arms raise like phantoms crawling from the grave.
Never mind the burn of hot, fierce eyes scraping a jagged wound in the back of your skull, burrowing down into that terrified grey matter.
Ignore the sound of someone else’s breath mingling with yours.
Ignore the way your heart thunders across the red Armageddon of your ribcage.
Ignore the lightning blast of adrenaline sizzling like a wildfire ravishing the forest of your veins.
Don’t look behind you. Don’t do it. You’ll regret it…
Pull the covers over your head. That thin sheet of cotton will protect you. The scent of laundry soap, the perfume of ocean breeze the lullaby to ease you into sleep. Your shield. The warm press of fabric your shining armor to defend you through the night.
Right?
Right.
Never mind the slow, cringing creak of the floor as it dips below the grass of your carpet under the heavy tread of something dark.
