Why There Won’t Ever Be An Asian Bachelor
But there might be an Asian Bachelorette???
On a recent episode of , we discussed whether or not there’d ever be an Asian President in the Oval Office one day. I said yes, it’d be possible — much earlier than there’d ever be an Asian male lead on the TV sensation “The Bachelor” on ABC.
If I were a betting man (which I am), I’d bet the farm that I won’t see an Asian Bachelor for the rest of my days. Here’s why.
For starters, there still hasn’t been an African American male lead in the series. We got our first black female lead in Rachel a couple years ago, but the executives were quick to nix Mike (from Hannah B’s Season) as a male lead despite much public support. This is changing however, with Matt James being announced as the next Bachelor. After almost a 20-year run and 24 seasons, we are finally getting a black Bachelor. How many more years and seasons until we see Matt Lee?
But by far the biggest reason there won’t be an Asian male lead anytime soon is the perception that Asian males carry in the United States, specifically amongst the Bachelor Nation audience, which tends to skew white, suburban, and middle class.
