Tax Credits For Outdoor Recreation?
Being outside has been shown to have a positive impact on a persons overall wellbeing , so why not incentive this?
For the better part of a decade, the U.S. government has encouraged EV purchases by offering tax credits ranging from $2,500 to $7,500. Governments offer tax credits for a variety of reasons, primarily to incentivize certain behaviors, support specific industries, and promote social and economic goals. Much of the sustainability focused funding ends up with enterprise businesses producing Solar Panels, EV batteries and similar.
So, if sustainability is the end goal, why not offer incentives for outdoor recreation? Being in the outdoors has been shown to encourage individuals to adopt greener practices and increases overall health and wellbeing. Why then isn’t there money flowing to technology that encourages outdoor activities?
Before diving into why I believe there should be tax credits for Outdoor Recreation, we need to understand the primary reasons why the government offers tax credits in the first place.
