Spirit Must Find Me Thick in the Head
I ignored nudges for too long and ended up with Stage 3 breast cancer
“Why did you kick me?” I blurted out.
C and I were having a late-night supper with several mutual friends from university. My foot-in-mouth disease was embarrassing her in front of those friends, so she kicked me under the table to get me to stop talking.
Unfortunately for her, my obliviousness ran too deep. Not only did her intervention fail, but I went on to embarrass her a second time by exposing her covert nudge.
This happened nearly 30 years ago. The good news is C hasn’t forsaken our friendship, and I believe I can now pick up social nudges better.
But picking up spiritual nudges? I’m still feeling my way around.
People like to ask how I discovered my Stage 3 breast cancer.
Here’s the TLDR version: I noticed a lump in my breast that grew for several months, and finally went for a checkup. I took so long to see a doctor because Dr Google said most breast lumps are benign. Also, mammograms.
The more interesting version? I ignored several spiritual nudges to go for a checkup, got spooked by one in-your-face nudge, and finally caved in.
