March Prompt: Learnings That Changed Me
It was a cool evening. We were happily munching on some fritters and watching some TV show when his phone rang loudly. On the other side of this phone was his friend, let’s call him Vicky.
I knew this friend. He had vanished in thin air for the last couple of years, only replying scantily when my husband initiated contact. The last I remembered, he made a call saying that he needed some money and that it was urgent.
What made him pop his head out?
Well, it was not in my purview. I got up from the couch and went to the nearby grocery store to fetch some vegetables.
When I got back home, he was still engrossed in the chat. They chatted for another ten minutes, maybe. When his friend finally hung up, he came to me and blurted out. “He got married a year back, you know. He forgot to tell me.”
I was taken aback, “Was he not a very good friend of yours?”
He stared at my face blankly and said “He still is. What do you mean by “was”? He needs some money, you know. I must help him.”
