How To Raise A Tough Cowboy (Hint: Add Cold Water)
A playful moment with my grandson turned into a memory I’ll treasure forever
This morning, my little grandson Stetson strutted into the room dressed head to toe like a cowboy — boots, hat, and all the swagger his five-year-old frame could muster. He looked at me very seriously and said, “Ninjas are smarter than cowboys.”
I raised an eyebrow and replied, “I don’t think so. Does a ninja know how to ride a horse?”
“No,” he said thoughtfully.
I continued. “Does a ninja know how to milk a cow?”
Again, he pondered the question. “Umm, no.”
“Then cowboys are smarter,” I concluded, and I went back to folding clothes.
After a pause, Stetson nodded. “You’re right.”
Later that evening, during bath time, we had another exchange. “But Grandma,” Stetson protested, “cowboys don’t take baths.”
I told him, “Yes, they do, but it’s usually in a very cold river. You’re a lucky cowboy because you get a nice hot bath, but you can pretend it’s a cold stream.”
Without missing a beat, he asked, “Grandma, can you come in and put cold water in the tub for me?”
