I Am Sick of Being in the Friend Zone (Of Politics)
This just isn’t the relationship I want from you
You’ve all been in this situationship before: A special someone says something that catches your eye and you just can’t help yourself. You have to go over to them. You can’t not. It’s primal. It’s built into our DNA.
And you say something, making your intentions crystal clear. They’d have to be a complete idiot to not understand the subtext of what you’re saying. You’re not looking for a friendship. In fact, that’s the last thing you’re looking for. And they know it.
But that’s what they want and they force you into that box.
I am referring, of course, to right wing trolls in the comments section.
They’ll post something racist or misogynist or ableist or transphobic or whatever just to get a rise out of you. You call them out and make fun of them and that should be that.
But, no. They’re eager for engagement.
That’s what just happened to me a few moments ago:
Look man, I’d actually rather hear your real critique than go back and forth with insults.
Oh would you? Too bad. You lost that chance when you wrote your tome about why women are inferior to men. And, no, I’m not…
