Teach Me to Love — Chapter 6

Welcome back! In Chapter 5, Kylie started teaching at a very rundown rural school and struggled to adjust.

Two weeks later, the chalkboard was dirtier than ever.

Kylie scrubbed it with as much elbow grease as her body could produce. At first, she merely wiped the board, but none of the chalk stains would come off. Then she started scrubbing. Fifteen minutes later, she had already broken a sweat, and about a third of the chalk had come off. They needed erasers. These washcloths were just not cutting it.

She felt a hand clasp onto her shoulder. She spun around and saw Wanda, smirking at her.

“You’re doing a good job,” she said. “Your classroom has the cleanest chalkboard in the entire school.”

As if their life were a full-on sitcom, the chalkboard made a painful creaking noise and collapsed to the ground.

“It could stand to be bolted a little better, though,” she added.

“Thanks,” Kylie said. Perhaps she’d overdone it with the elbow grease.

“Listen, Kylie. There’s nothing to be nervous about.”

Kylie cut her off. “But Richter is going to observe my classroom, and if I don’t…
