No, Trump Can’t Stop Iran’s March Toward Nukes
Iran appears confident — and Trump has no new card
Originally, Iran should have rejected Trump’s offer of a nuclear deal. Iran did not break the previous deal. Trump himself violated the deal and gave Iran a strong justification to never be part of any agreement with the US in the future.
Yet here we are. After a handful of threats, Iran is back negotiating with the same untrustworthy US. Not only that, but rounds of negotiations are happening , and after each round, the Iranian delegation claims that the talks were ‘very good and successful.’
Put simply, Iran doesn’t seem to be sweating under pressure here, as expected in many quarters. In contrast, Iran appears to hold many of the cards, and that everything unfolding is happening with Iran’s willing approval.
If these things surprise you, then know that this is the classic Iran. When tensions rise, it tactically retreats just enough, but never fully abandons its nuclear ambitions.
