A few years ago, I read a fascinating op-ed that revealed many of the dirty tricks used in the world of politics.

Here’s what happened: In 2019, Rana Sanaullah, a well-known former federal minister in Pakistan with a completely clean record on drugs, was suddenly caught with 15 kg of heroin and arrested. At the time, he was a target of the powerful civil-military establishment, much like former prime minister Imran Khan is today. His real “crime” was speaking out against the military-Imran Khan alliance.

Now, back to that interesting op-ed I mentioned earlier.

The writer, while commenting on Rana Sanaullah’s case, shared a story about his grandfather’s friend from before Pakistan’s independence, when the British still ruled. This friend was politically active and played a leading role in anti-colonial movements.

Obviously, the British rulers didn’t appreciate his activities, so they decided to take action. One night, they raided his house and “recovered” multiple firearms. The British government then framed him, claiming he had collected these weapons for sabotage against the state. He was thrown in jail.
