A Morning Walk In Newquay, Wales
A short Christmas travelogue
Driving back from a Christmas break on the West Wales coast, we visited the village of Newquay. The quay, commissioned in 1874, was built of local stone for the boatbuilding and herring fishing industries. Ropemakers, sailmakers and blacksmiths also worked there. Today, lobster, crab and shellfish are the main catch with tourism the main income.
Houses tumble down the hillside towards the quay and Cardigan Bay, famous for its thriving population of bottlenose dolphins. In the summertime, throngs of visitors stand on the old stone bulwark that protects the harbour, watching for the dolphins. If you are lucky they can be seen swimming in the harbour near the quay wall.
After morning coffee, we left the quay for home with this crow keeping watch for the dolphins.
