The Moment That Changed Everything
A transformative experience like no other
My friend Dave placed my newborn daughter on her mother’s chest. He held her with a strong grip around her thighs. Minutes later, he handed me an instrument to sever the umbilical cord. I was unprepared for that task. It was a lot tougher than it looked. I equated it with the strong mother and child connection.
You may not relate to my words if you have not experienced your child being born. Still, I assure you that it is the most emotionally powerful moment anyone can experience. Nothing else comes even close.
That I was there to witness and photograph the birth of my daughter is a privilege that did not go unnoticed. I thanked Dave for the opportunity.
I had always wanted a daughter. I did not know the gender of the child before Zoë was born. During the prenatal ultrasound examination, the gender was not revealed. Yet deep inside me, I never once doubted that I would father a daughter.
She was perfect. She fulfilled my dream in spades. A few months after she was born, I had a vasectomy. I did not want any more children. Zoë was all I wanted. Let me repeat, she was perfect.
I hope that answers your question, .
