Tea Time
Oh yes…!
Tea predates coffee by almost two millennia. That tasty beverage deserves recognition and a celebration as the elder member of the caffeinated hot drink spectrum. So I raise a cup in honor of International Tea Day — May 21st. Many thanks to for bringing it to my attention.
An interesting fact about tea is that America started as a nation of tea drinkers, only to boycott it in place of coffee some years later. England, on the other hand, was once the largest coffee-consuming nation but became the world’s largest tea consumer years later. Who knew?
I had a similar experience with caffeinated drinks in my youth. My partner introduced me to coffee. She enjoyed a cup in the morning and sometimes mid-afternoon. I joined her for the morning routine, but I rarely drank coffee after that.
I eventually realized that I drank coffee because others did. I never really liked its taste. I masked it with copious amounts of cream and sugar to be able to drink it. So, eventually, I gave it up and started drinking tea. I have not drunk coffee in years.
Maybe there is a genetic link, as my grandfather was British, but I am not convinced. I think tea tastes better than coffee. It is as simple as that.
