The Story of Violet —
and the Not So Silent Sister
Diane Chamberlain is a famous writer, and of the twenty-eight novels she has published so far, the twenty-third, The Silent Sister, is very likely the most famous.
So why did it take me seven years to get around to reading it? Honestly, I have no idea. The mass-market paperback was on sale at my local Walmart back in 2018, shortly after that edition was first printed. (It was published as a hard cover in 2014.)
I bought it. I brought it home. And I put it on one of my many bookshelves.
And it sat there.
A couple of weeks ago, I was casting about, searching for something old and familiar to re-read, as is my habit at times. I glanced at the cover and thought, ‘I don’t remember what that one is about. I think I’ll give it another go.’
There was a very good reason I didn’t remember what it was about: I had never read it! It had sat there, unread, on my bookshelf for seven years. (It was a tiny bit dusty.)
It isn’t dusty anymore. I just finished it tonight, and my leg is going to be sore for at least a week from kicking myself for waiting till now to make its acquaintance. It’s Really Good!
In case you haven’t read it yet and would like to, I’m going to avoid giving away any spoilers…
