Spring always comes
Vince was calling.
Eliza, taken aback by the caller ID, paused in the hallway. It had been five months since she last heard from him. She quickly ducked into the nearest empty conference room and accepted his call, waiting for him to speak first.
“Hi.”
“Hi, Vince.”
“Thanks for taking my call. I wasn’t sure you would. It’s been a while. Sorry to bother you at work. Are you busy? I can call back.” He sounded nervous.
“No, this is good. I’m between meetings, so I have five minutes to spare. How are you?” She had long given up hope of ever hearing from him again, so why was he calling now?
“I’m surviving and getting by. Thanks for asking. I’m actually in your area on business. Could you meet me for coffee? At the end of your work day? Any place you wish.”
Closing her eyes, her heart began to race. Why was he here? Why did he want to see her now? Could she handle seeing him again? She was about to find out just how strong she was.
“Sure. Do you remember the park down the road from my workplace? How about we meet at the entrance at 5:00 pm? I can wrap up my reports and finish by then. Wear something warm and dry. There is still some leftover…
