The Green Space Oddity

Robin steps closer to the telescope, inspecting the colorless array of lights in the vast darkness above him. He admires the different brightness and magnitudes, wishing he would spot the star he has been searching for.

“It has got to be here somewhere.’’ He mumbles to no one. He has seen it plenty of times before. And now every night, he waits. He gazes up at the twinkling lights, awaiting the arrival of the space oddity. He knows it is an oddity because it isn’t a star. It has been moving along the sky like a satellite, but he figured out it isn’t one. He spent hours on his laptop, googling all of the different satellites, checking stargazer fora to check if anyone else has seen his oddity. But no one has.

He searches the night sky, his eyes never standing still. He focuses on the specks of light, inspecting every single one of them.

“There!’’ He says, finally spotting the star. A giddy feeling erupts through his stomach, and for a brief moment, he wonders if this is what falling in love is like. He has always loved the sky, its stars, the mystery surrounding it. He can look at it all night long. He changed his entire sleeping schedule to be able to gaze at the sky at night and sleep during the day.

Only this time, the star is much bigger than it was before. He knows it’s the same one from its distinctive color. It is a green…
