Leave or Make Love New

Poem with art by Hermione – more of a song than a poem

--

Every so often, you tell me to leave

You point at the door

It’s hard to grieve when you tell me to leave

My dad once asked me, “What is love?”

What is love?

I’m still trying to work it out

But I don’t think I’ll succeed

Sometimes, I think that love is greed

If love is greed then I won’t plead

I planted a seed

Years ago

I wasn’t being greedy

But it grew a bit weedy

I just wanted to know

Whether you could love me

You said, “We’re the same,”

But, you never asked me to share your name.

I’m tired of trying

I’m tired of crying

I’m tired of lying

Saying I’m OK

When I’m not

You think I’m greedy

But I just want beauty

Is it a sin to ask for harmonious surroundings?
