Bed of Nails for a Hamster Fakir?

With so many possibilities for Ann’s nail board contraption — I’ll start with the most likely

As this month’s Deluded Custodian’s challenge,

would like us to ponder the following object. What’s its intended purpose?

I thought of many uses, but considering the rather painful-looking nature of this device, few of them involved hamsters or any animals besides humans. The spikey circles reminded me of a floral arranging device called a ‘frog.’ It’s a little spiked disk that sits at the bottom of a vase to keep the flower stems upright and tidy.

Given the larger size of the featured item, a serial killer or Vlad the Impaler might consider arranging other things with it, as pictured below.

As stunning as it looks on the wall, the decorating possibilities are practically endless. With a few candles and a vertical limb…
