The Calm Before the Storm
Foreboding I
The whiff of chimney smoke
hangs low powerless to bear the pressure
and penetrate the atmosphere
Black smoke spreads across the roofs
forming a loopholed blanket

Grey clouds gather menacingly low
Heavy and tempestuous, they displace

Overhead, dripping drops of drizzle
A warning caress
A moist kiss with a watchful eye
Braving the calm before the storm
I watch our Eastern neighbours

Resisting, they go about their daily lives
scared but not afraid
At home their packed suitcases
stacked in suspense
