The Breakdown

The scientific community is in turmoil

According to a recent highly scientific study of mine, there is a link between the common cold and writer’s block. I don’t know if this study will be published in the journal Science, but it doesn’t matter. You see, I didn’t just bring back a small box of wedding favours from my childhood friend’s wedding last weekend. I also brought back a terrible cold that started on Monday afternoon and, at the time of writing, still has not left me for good. After attacking my sinuses, the cold is now attacking my throat, causing severe coughing fits. My hair hurts too (I swear) and my skin feels strange. And to think I haven’t written my will yet! I can’t write anyway. I’ve got a cold and can’t find the words. I blow my nose and it’s as if inspiration comes out of my nostrils and lands in tissues destined for the bin. But maybe this cold has nothing to do with it, and the sad reality is that I simply have nothing interesting to write at the moment. I’ll just have to come to terms with that. Sorry to have bothered you, I’ll go back to blowing my nose, coughing and looking after my hair. I also have a newsletter to prepare. I promise it won’t contain any germs, but don’t forget to cover up well.
