Prove to Me You’re Real
I’ll do the same for you
Tea cup will clatter into saucer.
Words will be tossed to watch their slow fall
To earth in a tangled perfection we don’t anticipate,
But know will occur even if we’re not watching.
Tree falls in forest,
Joining all the other fallen ones
Softened by browning ferns, eager saplings,
Others who dared grandeur short and tall.
Hot tea was ordered, but sipped too soon,
Burning lips and mouth of one impatient
For steaming brew to soothe, satisfy,
Relieve mindful awareness bearing gifts
No one wants, but decides long after
Were exactly what they needed to arrive
Seated at table, sipping too hot tea
And telling the story only they can tell
Now that they have lived past happy endings,
Tragic outcomes, and choking regrets,
All the ways relied upon for eternal life
Because we cannot die in muddle’s middle.
