A Prayer

Could it be a call of my soul?

A Prayer, could it be
The yearning of my soul?
A soul longing to take flight
For a few moments in the skies,
Like a bird long held captive in a cage
So dark and narrow shrouded in mystery
That often dreams of unfurling its wings
In the vast azure sky, to stretch them like
An eagle, ascending as mistris of heights,
And reigning there for a brief interlude,
Savouring the glory that was once hers,
To fulfill one of its ardent desires:
To once again be a living ether,
An invisible temple content
Only within itself.

What does a prayer represent to you, my fellow writers and readers?
