Mindfulness Is More Important Than You Think
And more important than your thoughts
You want to hear a funny/embarrassing story? One day when I was cooking scrambled eggs, I had a lot on my mind. Usually I crack an egg on the side of the counter before emptying its contents into a bowl. The hand motion I’m accustomed to is cracking the egg and moving my hand away from myself and towards the bowl before emptying it into the bowl.
Well, on this mindless day, I had the brilliant idea to crack the egg on the edge of the sink so that if any egg were to seep out during the cracking, it would be in the sink instead of on the edge of the counter. The problem with this plan when you’re not mindful is that you might use the same motion you’re used to: cracking the egg and moving your hand away from your body, and when the bowl is between you and your hand, this results in you cracking the egg directly into the sink. Which unfortunately is what I did.
I’m embarrassed to admit that a few days later I made the same mistake. I couldn’t help but laugh at myself. I think it was a lesson from life that I need to be more mindful.
