Embracing Growth: The Third Step In Alcoholics Anonymous

The third step of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
This is both the hardest and the most pivotal step, in my opinion. Surrender is never easy, especially for control freaks. We must go from trying to control everything in our lives to entirely relying on a higher power, which is humbling.
I use the word “pivotal” for a reason. The first two steps are essential and the beginning of a journey of hope. The third step is like pushing the power boost button. It gets you through the hard stuff that will be coming. It is where you find hope and peace of mind. It is also where spiritual transformation begins.
Spiritual transformation is all about growing and developing as a person with God’s help and allowing God to lead you. I understand that the concept of God can be a stumbling point for some people, and the third step’s basis is a God of your own understanding. However, I have to lean heavily on the success of the Oxford Group, which was the precursor to AA and was heavily guided by biblical writings. I also…
