I grew up with curiosity about why certain people succeed more than others. From a young age, I started to observe how success is achieved. These observations never really showed me the answer, but they gave me things to ponder on.
Do we need to aspire for success, or does it happen for some people effortlessly? I had hope but at the same time cautioned that the risk of pursuing success was too high. Many times, I was very tempted to join the club of the status quo and live life as simply as possible.
Growing up, my faith as a Christian shaped my perspectives. One of the perspectives that changed for me was about being able to aim higher. Don’t get me wrong, the change in perspective didn’t immediately change me, but it was a starting point where I could see myself stepping into more unfamiliar tasks and goals.
Taking risks was very foreign to me when I was young, simply because failure is something that I was fearful of. No way do I want to start something knowing that it could potentially fail. Failure was not something that I could easily accept, and it was obvious in how I made choices in life.
