Writers, Don’t Forget You’re An Artist First
Making our writing once more into an art form
This is a clarion call to all the writers out there. The ones desperately holding on to their identities as craftsmen of words.
Artistic wordsmiths, alchemizing thoughts into words. I say to you, keep going with your art in word form, because your writing is exactly that.
Do not get swept up in the waves of writing online. Which often sees every writer as mere content creators. Seeing writing as means to an end. Whether that be to make money, grow a followership or sell a course.
Because for many true writers, sharing their words online is so much more than that.
It is an avenue for them to explore their inner thoughts, process their experiences, or connect with like-minded souls that resonate with their words.
In this world of ceaseless “content” creation, where artist are often swept in the frenzied whirlwind of digital marketing, content creation and social media growth. It is easy to lose our artistic bearings.
Caught up in the endless administrative and content promoting task, we can forget that as writers, we are inherently artists. Whether we engage in creative writing or not.
I want to step more into my artistic identity, and instead of growing a following, see my writing as an avenue to grow a life.
One that’s a beautiful mix of ideas, reflections, creative outpouring, all woven together with my experiences and creative voice.
As artist, let’s have the courage to walk away from being mere content creators, instead owning our true callings as connoisseurs of beauty, and stirrers of hearts.
Writer’s note: Hi, I’m Egypt, a multi-passionate writer and poet. Have a read of some of my other writing and poetry, and do share your thoughts in the comments, thanks.
