Why You Can’t Really Know What’s Real Anymore
The AI Story
Guess what? I might not be human. The article you’re reading right now could have been entirely written by artificial intelligence. How sure are you that a person crafted these words? The unsettling truth is, you can’t be certain.
And that’s exactly the point.
We’ve entered an era where the line between authentic and artificial has become so blurred that even experts struggle to tell the difference. This isn’t just about spotting fake news or photoshopped images anymore — it’s about navigating a world where reality itself seems increasingly up for grabs.
When Seeing Is No Longer Believing
Last month, my friend showed her mother a video of the President announcing a national emergency. Her mother was shocked and immediately wanted to know more details. The problem? The video was completely AI-generated — every pixel, every word, every gesture was fabricated.
This technology, known as “deepfakes,” uses artificial intelligence to create hyper-realistic videos showing people saying or doing things they never actually did. What once required Hollywood-level special effects teams can now be accomplished with publicly available software and a decent laptop.
