Once Just Words, Now My World
A casual statement I uttered changed the course of my life.
Some years back, I was at a crossroads as to whether to choose my passion over an impactful career. I’m passionate about writing but lacked the confidence to lean towards it.
I had a compilation of random thoughts that I had penned and a few scribbling I labelled as poems. Hence I was apprehensive as to whether this stuff will suffice to qualify me as a writer.
These skeptical thoughts clouded my confidence, and I needed a gentle push to steer me in the right direction.
When I broached this topic with my friends and relatives, their suggestion didn’t help me, and it left me even more confused.
At this juncture, I visited my native place for my family wedding. There I bumped into one of my aunts; she is a distant relative of mine.
She asked me about my profession, and since I wasn’t working at the time, I wanted to avoid the awkwardness of the moment. Without taking time, I said, I’m into content writing. It was a way to deflect the conversation.
She appreciated me and remarked that only a few are lucky to follow their passion, and you have done a great job, and I wish you all the best in your endeavors.
I said it without thinking much, just to keep the conversation going, but it ended up being the start of something real. Occasionally, the things we say casually can have a profound impact.
What we think often comes out as words. While uttering those words, we don’t plan much. But when we pause and reflect, we realize those words can carry more weight than we imagined.
But when I recount the incident, it doesn’t feel like an evasive response because I answered confidently, as if I have chosen my career path. It planted the seeds of my writing career, and I began exploring various avenues of online writing from then on.
At times, we’re torn between choosing a lucrative profession and following our passion. We overthink it, only to end up more confused. But when my aunt asked about my professional goal, I answered without a second thought because speaking about my passion brought me immense joy.
When it comes to setting goals, we should trust our instincts instead of relying on advice from external sources.
Hence, that incident was a game changer in my life!
