How to Embrace Change
Because familiar feels safe, but growth lives elsewhere

I usually write on Medium using my laptop. Today, for a change, I thought, let me try out the app. Sometimes, we get so used to something that we just stick to it. This can be as simple as taking the same route to work, even though there might be more than one route.
As humans, we like familiarity. It gives us a sense of control, safety, and comfort. But as much as we enjoy the comfort of familiarity, it’s also important to step out of our comfort zone once in a while.
Only when you try out new things, you learn, and only when you step out of your comfort zone you, grow.
Here are some simple ways to gently break out of your comfort zone:
- Start small. Even something tiny, like listening to a new kind of music you usually wouldn’t.
- Be curious. Ask yourself what if more often instead of saying what for.
- Say yes to things you usually say no to (as long as it feels safe and healthy).
- Don’t aim for perfect, just aim to try.
