From Burnout to Breakthrough: How Slowing Down Transformed My Writing Journey
Why writing less can actually lead to more creativity and consistency
What began as a hobby soon became a challenge to start earning from my writing.
The excitement to monetize my content led me to publish high-volume content.
The plan did not go well.
What Happened When I Wrote Fast
I created a plan to publish 5–7 pieces of content weekly. Initially, I was excited to feel the accomplishment of publishing so much weekly, but soon, it drained my creative flow.
I usually do the bulk writing on the weekends. Sometimes, I felt exhausted to write so much. I asked myself,
“Who told you to write so much?”
I created a plan that became a burden on myself.
The writing became mechanical without any fun or creativity. I did not think deeply about the different aspects of writing.
- Why am I writing?
- For whom am I writing?
- Which part of writing gives me immense joy?
- How do I want to monetize content?
I felt like a writing robot — I had learned a but forgot to apply them.
Then, I adopted a slow writing approach, and the magic happened.
The Turning Point
When I slowed down, I got the mental bandwidth to think. I stopped writing for a few days and did a few mindful activities.
- Daily, I walked for 30 minutes
- I did creative hobbies like Journaling and painting
- I cooked without checking my phone
After a few days, I naturally felt the pull towards writing.
I wanted to write again.
How Slow Writing Changed My Writing Routine
Surprisingly, my writing became fast when I slowed down.
- I got creative ideas to share my knowledge through mini ebook
- I learned to create a landing page
- I learned how to create a product demo using Loom(give link).
- I got the strategy to publish a mini ebook every month.
I decided that I would not write to accomplish anything. I will write as a fun and creative hobby.
This mindset shift changed my writing perspective and lifted a burden from my head.
There is no pressure to meet deadlines anymore — just the excitement of exploring new creative paths and connecting with like-minded people.
This curiosity keeps my writing discipline and consistency intact. I no longer need to put in extra effort to stay consistent.
TL;DR
Here is a quick takeaway for you.
Write slowly. Do not create any plan to publish high-volume content. It will drain your creative energy. Write about topics that you know or have experience with. Use writing as a way to share your insights on a topic.
Have fun with writing.
