Humans have approximately 86 billion of me each
Consuming tons of glucose to expand my reach.

Stimulation changes my electrical charge to yield effects.
My lipid covering optimizes signal speeds up to 120mps.

I eliminate the middle man at my fastest via reflex arcs
And make new paths in response to new information sparks.

Diseases, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, my function opposes,
And when I’m damaged beyond repair, I undergo apoptosis.
