Farewell
Anyone who’s played in the Medium sandbox for several months or longer has possibly noticed — or may in the future — the phenomenon of familiar writers who simply evaporate.
No au revoir, no adios, no sayonara. No explanation. They disappear…woosh into the vapors.
I always wondered what happened. A plethora of reasons exist why people may have gone MIA. But I feared: Oh no, did something tragic or untoward occur? I hope the person isn’t horribly ill. Did she die?
Explanations
Myriad plausible explanations come to mind as to why wordsmiths may’ve vanished into the abyss, never to be heard from again.
- They decided to finally “Get a life!”
- They became weary of competing with AI/machine learning drivel or frustrated with the amorphous machinations of the mysterious Medium algorithm…or succinctly wearied of wondering: “Why few folks read their stories.”
- They discovered productive ways to amuse themselves…such as resuming healthy relationships with books or…
