Trans woman Deliria encounters a strange cult offering her the chance to get pregnant — but at what cost?
Chapter 2
Deliria logged into her computer at the call center, which clocked her in and immediately set her ready for INBOUND CALLS. She silently cursed whatever setting the night manager had established. It was up to them to give the employees half a second to get ready.
Despite the urgency of each shift to get those calls down, now, now, now, Deliria loved the job. Years ago, she’d still used her deadname, and it had filled her with euphoria for each caller to say, “Huh…that’s a funny name for a girl.”
But today, the first call, then the second, then the third brought her no such euphoria. She could only think of Andy and that damned cult.
If cult was the right word — it wasn’t always.
Deliria bristled when conservative outlets referred to trans communities as a cult. If this group had helped Andy accept that they were non-binary, could it be that bad? It was possible it was just a group of people trying to help each other.
