My University’s LGBTQ+ Website Just Disappeared & I Want to Know Why
Fighting fascism & having fun in an age of strategic cruelty
I work at a public university in New York City, and this past Monday, our mysteriously vanished from Google search results.
The screenshot below shows search results on Google and , an onion-router browser that journalists often use to bypass censorious governments.
Before 2/24, when you typed in “LGBTQ” or “LGBTQIA+ Collective Lehman College” into Safari or Chrome, you’d see the website as the top result.
So why the sudden disappearance?
I figured this was due to one of several factors:
- Corporations caving into fascist dictates to support party lines over logic or human welfare, e.g., Google/Alphabet agreeing to rename geographical landmarks like and and quietly from its default calendars. Perhaps Google was purposefully demoting LGBTQ+ content.
- The Trump Administration is actively erasing LGBTQ+ people and history from every federal website (as well as the thousands of contractors hired by the U.S. Government). The LGBTQ+ Collective website was published in December 2024…
