Hi, I’m L.S. Jaffee. I’ve been a music journalist since college in the late 1970s, and I just wrapped up my second semester at a major university teaching a dream course, Writing About Music.

Last December in response to Prism & Pen’s “humanizing” prompt, I wrote about overcoming my fear of coming out as queer to the students while explaining the importance of writing authentically.

The current White House occupant’s very first official act on Jan. 20 wasted no time outlawing trans and non-binary existence. I used the first class on Jan. 24 to explain the course requirements, how AI usage is banned, and cite my music-industry experience and 20-year teaching credentials on the university level at 10 institutions.
