PRESSURE
PRESSURE Chapter 13
PRESSURE is an original work of fiction. At its core, it’s a story about the resilience of the human spirit. In life, we all get knocked down, but the true test of our character is whether we will get back up again…
Grace
Grace woke with a start, awakened by the intensity of her dream. She pushed herself into a sitting position with her back pressed against the headboard. She cradled her knees to her chest with her arms. Though she wasn’t afraid of the dark, she closed her eyes, breathed deeply to calm her racing pulse, and allowed her eyes time to adjust. She’d been temporarily blinded by the darkness surrounding her when her nightmare jolted her into wakefulness. With the window curtains drawn closed, she didn’t have moonlight to break up the unrelieved darkness engulfing her bedroom. She waited for her eyes to adjust before searching the nearby nightstand for her glasses. With her hands shaking, she knocked several items onto the floor.
Her hands flew to her face, covering her lips, as she squeaked out a protest when she heard rather than saw objects hitting the carpeted floor. Grace breathed a sigh of relief when Matt didn’t stir at the sound. I need eye surgery. That would fix the problem, Grace said to herself. Now that her vision had cleared, Grace quickly located her glasses and placed them on her nose.
