How Potlucks Can Save the World
Grab a plate and hear me out
If you know me, you know I love a good potluck. It’s communal, it’s bountiful, it’s economical. The age-old cooperative meal has endless lessons that reach further than dinnertime.
Reason #1: Everyone brings their best dish to the potluck.
Whether it’s hand-rolled sushi, pine-flavored cake, or Grandma’s potato salad, people seem to bring their well-practiced, signature dish to share. Yes, there is always a renegade braveheart that tries a new recipe, and I respect their courage.
If cooking is not your thing, there is always a need for other skills, such as set-up, clean-up, providing plates and napkins and the like. The point is: people bring their unique skills to the event, and a successful event needs it all.
Reason #2: The purpose is to share.
I love the community spirit that comes with a potluck. There is always plenty, so if you are not able to bring a dish to pass, please come anyway. Both the prince and the pauper appreciate a good meal, so let’s invite them both in.
