Don’t Get Pregnant In Idaho
Doctors are leaving and fewer hospitals are able to deliver babies
Whatever you do, don’t get pregnant in Idaho. No, I’m not talking about the extremely restrictive abortion laws. I’m talking about routine labor and delivery services which are rapidly disappearing in the state.
The latest casualty is . It is the only hospital left in a city of 9,000 people which provides labor and delivery services. According to a news release, it will end those services on May 19.
New patients are no longer being seen while current patients are being given referrals.
Before I go any further, I have to point out that trying to find an OB/GYN is extremely difficult in New Jersey where I live, but for very different reasons. Here, it’s the cost of malpractice insurance.
The cost of malpractice insurance has become prohibitive in New Jersey for OB/GYN doctors because nowadays, parents expect a perfect baby every time. If they don’t get it or something goes wrong during the pregnancy resulting in injury to the fetus or pregnancy loss, people sue. And win big.
