Three Birds
Found Poetry
Recently I have been using the Merlin Bird ID app to identify songbirds in my neighbourhood. It has gotten a bit addictive, but also the descriptions of some of the birds are downright poetic. These are found poems, from those descriptions.
Spotted Towhee
Black above with white
spots on wings and
back.
Eyes staring red.
In flight,
note white corners
on tail.
Inhabits scrubby areas
and forest edges
with thickets.
Males sing from atop shrubs
and low trees.
Visits feeders.
Brown Creeper
Tiny, cryptic
woodland
songbird .
In flight, shows bold
buffy wing stripe.
Hitches upward
in short, jerky motions
until it reaches the top.
