A Love Story
Each story is simple, yet still a love story
We started off on the same path,
Dreams of companionship, hearts in laugh.
The journey long, but joy did bloom,
To walk together, in shared room.
But down the lane, I came to see,
I was no longer a companion, but left behind.
I called out, but lost his way,
Hoping he would return, to brighten my day.
I waited, and waited, my heart heavy and torn,
Wanting to turn back, but nowhere to go.
The road back, yesterday’s tale,
A distant dream no longer traced.
I trailed on, smiling and holding back tears,
And when I thought I was bound to fall,
He had my back, through it all.
He was there all along,
Building our dream, though quiet but strong.
Maybe it was all in my head,
Overloaded with expectations too heavy to tread.
I realize now, it’s not a fairytale’s end,
No perfect finish, no means to pretend.
We must make it, day by day,
Stronger together, come what may.
Men are different, they love in their way,
Shielding us, even when words can’t say.
It’s not the teddy bears or flowers, we know,
It’s the silent strength that helps us grow.
Now side by side, our steps aligned,
Together again, our hearts entwined.
The journey long, but no longer alone,
Together, we’ve made this path our own.
I dedicate this poem to my husband.
This poem is inspired by the men around me —family, friends, relatives, and others — who quietly and steadfastly create their own love stories. Each story is simple yet full of love, just like mine.
I also want to thank for the Valentine’s Day prompt (Poetry Playground Daily Poetry Prompt #45) which allowed me to reflect on my own life and appreciate it even more.
I recommend the write-up by . She has beautifully expressed gratitude towards life, in three different poems.
