Something in the Orange
Of goodbyes, sunsets and new beginnings
Whenever I think of orange, a song unwillingly pops into my head. A broken voice singing, “Something in the orange tells me you’re never coming home”. With it comes memories of sunsets, of sitting on a plane after saying goodbye, of new beginnings.
Zach Bryan wrote ‘Something in the Orange’ for a lost lover. Yet to me, it will always be the song that reminds me of watching my home country get smaller and smaller from a plane window. It will always remind me of saying goodbye to my loved ones. It’s a moment of sadness yet also excitement for what’s to come.
Orange is the colour that accompanies every end of the day yet also the colour that we start our days with. Sunsets bleed into sunrises, orange hues that speak of memories ending and new ones starting.
Travelling often feels like I am collecting sunsets. I can’t help it. No matter where I go, it is more beautiful than the last. It replaces the sadness of another day ending with serenity, the joy of witnessing something so beautiful.
Orange to me is nature putting on a show, a piece of happiness no matter where you are.
