Treetop Serenades

--

Springtime written in song.

Author image

I walk a mourning path
Bleak trees
In February grey
Stark silhouettes
Blackthorn, ivy
Hawthorn, hazel
Oak, ash,
Leafless, forlorn.
Solitude, silence
Eerily expectant
Waiting, sensing.
Then
Musical daggers.
Robin song,
Territorial warfare
Cutting silence,
Stabbing winter,
Serenading spring.
Melody, notes,
Minims, crochets,
Quavers,
Throated through
Gloom into
Morning air.
No mourning now!
