Why Motherhood Changed My Career Dreams — and I’m Glad It Did

Motherhood is a beautiful journey where we learn something new every day. We are taught language, grammar, and equations in school, but what we learn from motherhood tells us about our nature, which we never thought we would do.

When I was in college, my dreams grew a lot. I would not bow down to anyone and would make a career according to my choice.

We told our parents, husband, and everyone else that this was the career we wanted. But after having children, I don’t know how our thinking changed.

I started preparing for banking exams as soon as I completed my B.Tech. I used to think that I would work in an office, and that too in a government job. I was not selected in the PO in the last round. After marriage, I prepared for one more year and took exams. However, I did not clear the cutoff by one or 0.25 in the last round.

Even after having a daughter, I gave the State Cooperative Bank exam when my daughter was 2 months old and the SBI Clerk exam when she was 3 or 4 months old. I was so passionate about a job in a bank.

My pregnancy was not smooth, so I did not prepare for that one year. Still, I had said that…
