What I Learned While Traveling in my Van for 2 Weeks

Recently, I finally got the chance to take my new RV out for the first time. It was a long time in the making; I bought the van in June of 2024, but then broke my ankle three hours after purchasing it (yes, you read that right!). It was the worst of luck, and my summer went from hitting the road for the month of August to sitting on my couch recovering from surgery. Bummer.

At the end of August I picked up my new van, and by the next week I was out traveling in it. Does that seem fast? It was! If I’m being honest, it was too fast. I learned a lot during those 12 days, and I wanted to share those lessons with you, from the minute to the mindblowing.

The Cons

First and foremost: no matter how much storage space there is in an RV, there’s never enough for all the stuff you want to bring. You need to pack light, and then pack lighter. Edit your contents as you go; I had a pile of things on the passenger seat to donate or sell by the time I was heading home.

While a small space is easier to keep clean, it also turns into a hot mess much quicker than your home. Keeping up with the cleaning before it becomes a massive mess was a valuable lesson. Having a place for everything, and putting stuff…
